Strawberries with puff pastry hearts

What to do when you have bought a packet of ready-made puff pastry for a household of two?  Make chicken pies, then a beautiful strawberry dessert, then start thinking about the next application….

 

 

Ingredients:

Ready-made puff pastry (or make your own!)

Fresh strawberries, or any berries for that matter.  Mixed berries can look just as beautiful

A sprinkling of white sugar

A dusting of icing sugar

A nice spoonful of crème fraiche or whipped cream per serving. 

 

Method:

Preheat oven to 200ºC and place some baking paper onto your baking sheet. 

Any shapes would do, but I cut two 7cm diameter circles and then cut a heart-shape out of these with a cookie cutter

Brush with milk and sprinkle with a little white sugar – to brown more easily and taste more interesting.

Lift onto the baking sheet and bake till golden brown, about 10 minutes. 

Prepare your strawberries (rinse, hull and halve them), pack into a pretty dish (be adventurous – you could even serve this on a slate tile) and dust with icing sugar to taste.

Add crème fraiche and puff pastry, with a whole strawberry as garnish and serve!  Don’t forget to take a picture J
