Hi there! I am a South African expat, now happily
settled in the lovely Kent countryside in the UK.

I love everything meaningful and beautiful,
which I try to capture in different media.

My inspiration for all of this: the people that I love,
and the love that God has for me.

Ek deel graag met jou die vreugdes van dit
wat mooi en betekenisvol is.

Writing

Creating pictures with words & building it into stories

Blog

Here I like to share the impressions & discoveries encountered on my journey through life.

Articles

Sharing words of wisdom (not always my own) with you, covering a variety of subjects.

Books

Do have a look at the three books I have written.

Arts and Crafts

Creating with lines, shapes, colours & textures

Sketchbook

A pencil and sketchbook in hand I’m happy – whether walking around my favourite art gallery or simply sitting down for a coffee.

Painting

I work mainly in water colours but am ready to embark on an adventure with oils and multimedia.

Embroidery

Being creative with stitching is one of the joys in my life – from embellishing a facecloth to creating a ring cushion for my daughter’s wedding.

Series 13

… started off with an apron with a message and branched out to other joyful creations.

Cooking

This is about imagining, preparing, serving & enjoying food can always be a feast.

Elsa Schiaparelli once said: A good cook is like a sorceress who dispenses happiness.

Breathe!

Breathe!

From the depths of general anaesthesia I could hear the surgeon (also a family friend) calling to me: “Breathe!” at which I obligingly took a deep breath. This happened after a routine operation where the anaesthetist couldn’t get me to begin breathing on my own...

Embroidery magic on a stain

Embroidery magic on a stain

What to do when you get a stain on a favourite dress or sun hat? Grab the embroidery kit! My nice floppy sun hat got a stain (don’t ask me how) which I wasn’t able to remove. Voilà! I’m crowned with a sprig of flowers! My trusty white cotton dress (I have half a...

Be happy! Always?

Be happy! Always?

Our children have developed the photo opportunity quip where the photographer says: “Look happy!” instead of the usual “Say cheese!” Normally, I can look fairly happy if I try hard enough, but the Lord asks of us to BE happy and this isn’t all that easy. This is going to be a journey of a lifetime.

Young love … painful love … growing love

Young love … painful love … growing love

Young, rich and successful doesn’t necessarily mean happy. This young couple, who were as well-suited as two cart ponies, had every reason to be happily married. However, this engineer and this social worker were confronted with the pain and confusion of an affair and divorce proceedings. The court case was postponed several times, adding to the stress and confusion. Could a floundering marriage like this one be saved? Could the confused children find healing again? And how painful would this growing process be?

Rachel

Rachel

Rachel’s apron is choc-full of symbolism. Life is like a kaleidoscope of impressions, influences and responsibilities and it is only when God’s light shines into it that the beauty and sense of it all becomes visible. As I had made quite a few aprons for women I am...

Sanctuary of love

Sanctuary of love

A sanctuary can be described as a place of refuge, safety and rest; a place where you can feel at peace, the holiest part of a temple/church.

Many years ago, when I attended the funeral of an older woman, I was deeply touched by the eulogy: Her main attribute was love. This description of her life inspired me as a younger woman to strive to be characterised by love, Jesus-love.

Hope

Hope

At last! After much prayer, sweat and even tears, our book is about to be published!

It contains a range or true-life stories of marriages in different kinds of lulls or crises, sharing how they have navigated (and some still navigating) their way towards a more fulfilling relationship. While it would be irresponsible to give the impression that there is a foolproof recipe towards a guaranteed result, you may be encouraged by the way these couples have committed themselves to applying sound Biblical principles. So, whether your marriage needs just a little tweak, or some seriously hard work, this could be the inspiration you needed.

It will soon be available as an e-book on a variety of digital platforms.

Knife Skills

Knife Skills

Mastering basic knife skills is one of the most essential parts of cooking, along with keeping your knives sharp. A sharp knife not only allows you to work faster, but safer. When your knife is blunt the amount of pressure needed to cut through food is much greater, one slip can result in a nasty injury. See www.greatbritishchefs.com

Honouring God by taking care of myself

Honouring God by taking care of myself

Robert Murray McCheyne, 19th century minister in the Church of Scotland, was known for his dedication to home visits and evangelism. Even after retiring at the age of 25 due to poor health, he still focused on the ministry up to his death shortly before his 30th birthday. Towards the end of his life he lamented: “God gave me a message to deliver and a horse to ride. Alas, I have killed the horse and now I cannot deliver the message.”

While it might be admirable living a shorter but meaningful life rather than a long, fruitless life, most of us find ourselves between these two extremes. We have a responsibility, though, to see this “horse” of ours as part of the equipment God entrusts to us while in his service.

Rebecca’s Apron

Rebecca’s Apron

Rebecca’s apron is one of my favourites. Not just the lovely fabric that I used but what it is a symbol of in the life of a very special lady. All of my aprons remind us to follow the example of Jesus lovingly serving others while we are part of our heavenly Father’s...
